NOTE: the electric system is designed to prevent electric starting if the transmission is in gear, unless the clutch is disengaged. The engine can be started in gear with the clutch disengaged. However, it is recommended that the transmission be placed in neutral before attempting to start the engine.

WARNING: Exhaust gases contain poisonous carbon monoxide. Never run the engine in a closed garage or confined area.

1. Turn the fuel valve to the "ON" position.

2. Insert the key in the ignition switch and turn to the "ON" position. The neutral indicator (green) and oil pressure warning light (red) should go on.

3. Make sure the engine stop switch is in the "RUN" position.

4. Pull the choke knob (1) out to the fully closed position (A), if the engine is cold.

5. Operate the throttle slightly and press the starter button.

6. Warm up the engine at 2,000 to 3,000 rpm until it runs smoothly with the choke open (B).

CAUTION: the oil pressure warning light should go off within a few seconds after the engine is started. If the light remains on, turn off the engine immediately and check the oil level. If the oil level is adequate, do not operate the motorcycle until the lubricating system has been examined by a qualified mechanic.
