ENGINE OIL

Check oil level at the start of each day the motorcycle is to be operated. Place motorcycle on the centre stand and check the oil level. Oil level must be maintained between the upper (1) and lower (2) level marks on the oil filler cap dipstick (3). Add recommended oil (see ENGINE OIL) up to the upper level mark (10, if necessary. The oil should be changed and the oil filter replaced at the maintenance intervals shown on page 117.

Perform the oil change in the following manner. Drain the oil while the engine is warm.

1. Remove the oil filler cap (3).

2. Place an empty oil drain pan under the oil tank and cranckcase and then remove the drain plugs (4) and (5). Also remove the oil filter bolt (6) and filter element.

3. Operate the kick started several times to aid in complete draining of the remaining oil.

4. Reinstall the plugs (4), (5), making sure that the plain washer is in good condition.

5. Install the oil filter element and tighten the filter cover (7), making sure the O-ring is in good condition.

6. Fill with approx. 3.5 litres (3.7 U.S. qt., 3.1 Imp. qt.) of recommended grade of oil. Start the engine and run for several minutes; then stop it and recheck the oil level. Add oil if necessary.

CAUTION: Change the oil more frequently than recommended in ENGINE OIL, depending upon the severity of dust conditions.
